  1. Why you shouldn’t break up with me

    September 22, 2012 by Laura

Well shoot ladies, I know it has been waaaaay too long.  Here’s the deal.  My life has changed a bit since my last post~ and so I am hoping you can understand and take me back as a regular read:) SOOO, the hubs accepted a new job that has brought us to the most beautiful of places, Anacortes Wa.

The ‘move’ was about as awesome as moving can be (which is not awesome at all) but we are here, and have started the process of ‘settling’.  I am sure you are wondering if the hubs will still be traveling for work ;) and yes he will.  BUT, we (over the past 6 months to a year) have made a concerted effort to find more balance in our life.  Instead of 38–40 trips a year, there will be somewhere around 10–12 (can I get an AMEN!). I have also taken a step back– instead of driving so hard and putting the usual pressure on myself professionally, we decided that I would try my hand at working part-time and being an actual mom for more than 1 hour a day (remember my BIG dream?? it came true!) (no offense to working moms out there– it is all I have known really so believe me, I don’t think there is anything morally wrong with that) my schedule just sucked.  I only saw my kids when they were super cranky (5:45 am or 4:30pm) oh, and I wasn’t too peachy either, and since our situation allows for it, well shoot, why not try it out!

It is funny, part of me wasn’t sure how to tell you all that instead of embracing the full-time road warrior life and being the Plane Jane ‘who could do it all’ I sorta wanted more time with my man.…I think my message that we can have amazing lives even if our spouse travels is still right on, but it is complex. Life is complex and we all have our ways of making it work, and making it better.  We needed more balance, so we took some time, and it found us. Maybe you need something else, the point is, there is no 1 way, or right way.  Some of you may want your hubs to travel more, or you want to get on the road– who knows…all I know is that 3 weeks into our new ‘life’ I have really enjoyed seeing my kids get to know their dad a little better.  I am also kinda looking forward to his first trip next week:) I am craving some alone time, some evenings to work, and I think part of him misses Delta just a little ;)

I really just wanted to thank you guys for hanging with me over the summer– I know I have been MIA. I will write more about the other reasons another time.

ALSO, I want you guys to test out the new ‘forum’ feature on the blog and let me know if you like it. I wanted a place where you could chat, post questions etc. that didn’t require any sort of mediation on the admin side.

OK ladies, I love ya and would love to know how your summer went~ anyone else have a major life change?!
